We share the highlights of the Global Community of Feminist Helplines in 2024.
The Global Community of Feminist Helplines consists of 22 different initiatives distributed in 16 countries across Africa: Ghana, Nigeria; Asia: India (2), Indonesia (2), Pakistan; Europe: France, Spain (2); Latin America: Brazil, Bolivia, Chile, Ecuador, Honduras, Mexico (2), Peru, and Venezuela.
We are entering our fifth year as a space of peer learning and exchange about our ways of working, methodologies and tools to support women and LGBTQIA+ people. We strongly believe that the information, support and encouragement that strangers offer from afar can be life-changing and sometimes even life-saving.
Through 2024, we have come to a better understanding of the various methodologies, issues and challenges that direct attention, support and accompaniment entail. We have also improved the mechanisms of referral and collaboration among us.
Together, we achieved the creation and launch of the Feminist Helpline Index (FHI), both in English and Spanish, showcasing 17 initiatives in 13 countries across Africa, Asia, Europe and Latin America. In the first three months since its launch, the FHI has already received over 2000 visits from 66 countries. These figures show that this kind of resource was needed to give visibility to the work of feminist helplines worldwide.

We also organised six Community Conversations (CC) facilitated by the different organisations from the community:
- CC #13 – Presenting your Feminist helpline initiative 1
- CC #14 – Presenting your Feminist helpline initiative 2
- CC #15 – Disconnect from your ex-partner’s guide
- CC #16 – Digital forensics for feminist helplines
- CC #17 – Transfeminist karaoke against gender violence
- CC #18 – Training for volunteers providing attention
This 2025, we are full of ideas to continue working together: A global meeting of feminist helplines; An internal contact list for referrals and support between feminist helplines; A working group for advocacy of feminist helplines towards social media platforms; Keeping up with the Community Conversations; Working or interested in digital forensics from a feminist perspective; Presenting the Feminist Helplines Global Community and its work in public webinars facilitated by DDP; Supporting funding efforts for collaboration between feminist helplines initiatives; and Contributing to an online and public resource based on all our past Community Conversations.
DDP maintains its efforts to facilitate rapid response communities providing support to women, LGBTQIA+ people, sex workers, activists, WHRDs, journalists, civil society leaders, politicians, candidates, and also shelters or professionals working with survivors.
