The Community of Feminist Helplines presents the Feminist Helplines Index (FHI), a resource to help women and LGBTQIA+ people and their organizations find the support they need when facing Technology-Facilitated Gender-Based Violence (TFGBV).
With almost 45% of young women online affected, a figure that rises to 73% when considering women journalists, TFGBV has become a significative threat to freedom of expression and a control and disciplining strategy against women and LGTBQIA+ people. The Feminist Helplines Index aims to enable women and LGBTQIA+ people facing TFGBV to identify available feminist helplines that can support them in their region, language, or specific support needs with a feminist and intersectional perspective.
“Feminist helplines are at the forefront of the strategies to respond to technology-facilitated gender-based violence, most of the time, with scarce resources and a lack of collaboration from social media platforms that enable such violence”. Alexandra Haché, Community Building Lead at Digital Defenders Partnership.
The Feminist Helplines Index is a collaborative effort, hosted by the Community of Feminist Helplines, comprising 15 initiatives in 13 countries in Africa, Asia, Europe and Latin America. Since 2020, this community has been an exchange space to learn from each other about feminist accompaniment and specific tools and methodologies to support women, LGBTQIA+ people, Human Rights Defenders, activists, migrants and refugees, journalists, civil society leaders, politicians, candidates, sex workers, women shelters and professionals working with survivors.
